George le dog Danois détient désormais, le record de plus grand chien au monde, avec une longueur de de hauteur de 109 cm et 2,3 mètres de long. 

Poisson trouvé aux Pays-Bas et mesure 47,4 centimètres . Selon l'étude réalisée par l’Université de Plymouth, ce poisson peut garder la mémoire d’un événement jusqu’à 3 mois.

 L’Ukrainien Leonid Stadnyk, considéré comme l’homme le plus grand du monde, est décédé le 24 août dernier, à l’âge de 44 ans. Atteint de gigantisme depuis ses 12 ans, l’homme est mort d’une hémorragie cérébrale, entraînée par les complications dues à sa maladie, explique le quotidien britannique The Mirror.

Leonid Stadnyk mesurait 2 mètres 59. Il avait commencé à grandir de façon démesurée lorsqu’il était adolescent. Souffrant d’une tumeur au cerveau, il aurait subi une opération chirurgicale, pendant laquelle une glande sécrétant les hormones de croissance a été touchée. A partir de là, Leonid Stadnyk n’a jamais cessé de grandir.

Pour cet Ukrainien, sa taille était une véritable « malédiction, une punition de Dieu », qui l’a handicapé toute sa vie. « Toute ma vie j’ai voulu être plus petit. Je me baissais et je me voûtais, j’ai toujours voulu être dans l’ombre » avait-il confié dans une interview accordée à Reuters en 2004. Le gigantisme l’a notamment empêché de devenir vétérinaire. Il lui était également difficile de trouver des vêtements et chaussures à sa taille pour affronter la rudesse des hivers ukrainiens.

Si Leonid Stadnyk était considéré par le Guinness des Records comme l’homme le plus grand du monde, il avait toutefois refusé d’être mesuré, ne souhaitant pas devenir célèbre à cause de sa maladie. De fait, c’est le Turque Sultan Kösen, 2 mètres 51, qui est officiellement l’homme le plus grand du monde.
